It comes as no shocker that Punk Goes Classic Rock butchered some of the best rock songs ever, but the severity of the butchering does. Some of the covers are actually decent, like Peirce the Viel’s cover of Don’t Fear The Reaper (by Blue Oyster Cult) and The Almost’s cover of Free Fallin’ (by Tom Petty). Otherwise, some of the WORST bands ever were picked to cover great songs such as NeverShoutNever! covering Bohemian Rhapsody (by Queen) and Forever The Sickest Kids covering Crazy Train (by Ozzy Osborne). Just to put this out there: YOU DO NOT COVER QUEEN. It can’t be successfully done, especially Bohemian Rhapsody and especially when you’re a crap band like NeverShoutNever!. But, in an attempt not to dwell on the negative, let’s talk about some good metal bands. So if anyone here’s a Killswitch Engage fan or possibly The Ghost of a Thousand fan then you’ll probably dig these bands: Forever Never (check out Broken Kingdom), Of the I (check out Single Units), Godsized (check out Fight and Survive), Esoterica (check out Scream), and The Crimson (check out Memories).  All the bands are hard hitters with lots of energy, but most don’t revert to screamo at all, which is a plus. For all you looking for something to do tomorrow night there is A Day Without Hate rally tomorrow (April 30) at the NAAC at 6. What does this have to do with music you say? Well two local bands, Calling Out West and Regret Night are scheduled to play the event. Regret Night are pop-alt and I couldn’t find any of Calling Out West’s stuff, but it’s worth a shot if you have nothing better to do right?
